Red Cedar Deck

Cedar is beautiful, smells good, and is naturally resistant to rot.

Why it's good: Beautiful appearance, naturally resistant to insects and rot, ages gracefully (takes on a beautiful gray hue if left untreated).

Interview: Same as treated wood—stain every 2-3 years if you want to maintain the original color.

Composite Deck

Composite (such as Trex, TimberTech), it's wood mixed with plastic. Zero maintenance, never rots.

Why it's good: No ever-repeating dye jobs, stain and fade resistant, won't crack or chip, perfect for busy families.

Cost: More expensive to buy than wood, but you save on maintenance in the long term.

Appearance: The new composites perfectly mimic natural wood—grain, texture, and varied colors.

Elevated or Ground-Level Terrace

Ground-level terrace (patio): Directly on the ground or a few inches above it. Ideal for flat terrain.

Elevated terrace: Several feet above the ground, perfect for sloping terrain or to create a beautiful space at the height of your patio door.

Our Construction Process

Assessment of your land. We come to your home, take measurements, assess the slope of the land, and discuss what you want (size, height, style).

Custom design. We create a detailed plan with the exact dimensions and the location of the posts, stairs, and railings. You can see exactly what you're going to get.

Solid foundations. Screw piles are installed in the ground (below the frost line) or poured concrete pillars. This ensures that your deck will remain stable for decades.

Sturdy structure. The structure is built using high-quality treated wood—main beams, joists spaced correctly (maximum 16 inches center to center). Everything is securely fastened with galvanized lag screws.

Installation of the floor. The boards are laid with the correct spacing (1/8 to 1/4 inch between each board) to allow water to drain away. Each board is screwed down so that it cannot move.

What is the difference between a patio and a terrace?

A patio is usually at ground level (or almost), built directly on a base of compacted gravel or slabs. A deck is raised, on a wooden or metal structure. The two terms are often used interchangeably in Quebec.

Composite or wood, which one should you choose?

Composite is more expensive initially but requires zero maintenance. Wood is less expensive but needs to be stained every 2-3 years. If you like the look of natural wood and don't mind maintaining it, choose wood. If you just want to enjoy your deck without any hassle, choose composite.

Do you need a permit to build a deck?

It depends on your municipality and the height of your deck. Generally, if your deck is more than 24 inches above the ground, you need a permit. We'll check this for you and can take care of the paperwork.

How long does a treated wood deck last?

Can a deck be built directly against the house?

Yes, it's actually the most common method. We securely attach the deck to your house using a system of suspended joists. We make sure everything is watertight to prevent water infiltration.

When is the best time to build a deck?

From spring to fall (May to October). Work can begin as soon as the ground thaws in spring. Reserve your spot early, as we fill up quickly during the summer.

Can a roof or pergola be added later?

Yes, but it's easier if you plan for it from the start. You can reinforce certain posts and plan for the necessary anchors. It costs less than modifying everything after the fact.
