Outdoor Terrace

A sturdy, beautiful terrace, perfect for enjoying the summer.

Outdoor terrace

You've got an old terrace cracking all over? Or do you dream of having a beautiful outdoor space where you can entertain friends, have BBQs and enjoy the summer?

A patio isn't just a luxury—it's a true extension of your home. It's where you'll drink your morning coffee, let the kids play, and spend quiet evenings with friends.

But beware: a poorly constructed terrace is a source of problems.

Rotting boards, sagging structures, slippery surfaces, wobbly ramps. It becomes dangerous and ends up costing you a fortune in repairs.

At Solutions Rénovation Québec, We build decks that are beautiful, strong and durable. Designed for our climate, built to last, and made so you can enjoy every summer hassle-free.

Why So Many Terraces Have Problems

We see the same mistakes being repeated:

Inadequate foundations

A deck built on concrete blocks on the ground will shift every year with the freeze-thaw cycle. The result: a structure that sags, boards that come loose, and a dangerous deck.

In several Lévis, We replace terraces built without solid foundations.

Poor-quality wood

Cheap treated wood rots after 5-6 years, especially if it is poorly ventilated underneath. We see this all the time.

Poor ventilation can also cause problems similar to those explained in attic ventilation: why it's crucial for insulation in Lévis.

Neglected drainage

If water accumulates under your deck or gets trapped between the boards, it accelerates rot and creates moisture against your house.

In some cases, this can also affect projects such as basement finishing if humidity spreads.

Poorly anchored ramps

Bolted railings that loosen over time are dangerous. You need solid ramps that will hold up.

Insufficient space between boards

If the boards are too tight, the water won't drain. That creates mold and makes the wood rot faster.

Moisture problems such as these can also lead to the need for insulation and decontamination.

The Types of Decks We Build

Treated Wood Deck

This is the classic and economical option. If it is well made with good wood, it will last a long time.

Why it's good: Affordable, natural-looking, easy to repair.

Red Cedar Deck

Cedar is beautiful, smells good, and is naturally resistant to rot.

Composite Deck

Composite (like Trex, TimberTech) is wood mixed with plastic. Zero maintenance, never rots.

The new materials are often used in projects involving exterior renovation.

Elevated or Ground-Level Terrace

Ground terrace (patio): Directly on the ground or a few inches above it. Ideal for flat terrain.

Raised terrace: Several feet above the ground, perfect for sloping terrain or to create a beautiful space at the height of your patio door.

In several houses in Quebec and Lévis, Raised terraces are the most popular solution.

Options and Accessories

Integrated lighting

LED lights recessed into steps or railing posts. Perfect for summer evenings.

Pergola or partial roof

To create shade and protect a section of your patio from the sun or rain.

These structures are often added to existing residential construction and renovation.

Why Choose SRQ for Your Deck?

Foundations that hold up

Screw piles or concrete piers are used below the frost line.

We apply the same construction standards as for our kitchen renovation and bathroom renovation - strength, precision and durability.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a patio and a terrace?

A patio is usually at ground level (or almost), built directly on a base of compacted gravel or slabs. A deck is raised, on a wooden or metal structure. The two terms are often used interchangeably in Quebec.

Composite or wood, which one should you choose?

Composite is more expensive initially but requires zero maintenance. Wood is less expensive but needs to be stained every 2-3 years. If you like the look of natural wood and don't mind maintaining it, choose wood. If you just want to enjoy your deck without any hassle, choose composite.

Do you need a permit to build a deck?

It depends on your municipality and the height of your deck. Generally, if your deck is more than 24 inches above the ground, you need a permit. We'll check this for you and can take care of the paperwork.

How long does a treated wood deck last?

If it is well built with good wood and well maintained, easily 20-25 years. The structure (beams and joists) can last even longer—it is often just the floor that is replaced after 15-20 years.

Can a deck be built directly against the house?

Yes, it's actually the most common method. We securely attach the deck to your house using a system of suspended joists. We make sure everything is watertight to prevent water infiltration.

When is the best time to build a deck?

From spring to fall (May to October). Work can begin as soon as the ground thaws in spring. Reserve your spot early, as we fill up quickly during the summer.

Can a roof or pergola be added later?

Yes, but it's easier if you plan for it from the start. You can reinforce certain posts and plan for the necessary anchors. It costs less than modifying everything after the fact.
