Exterior Cladding

A durable coating that protects your home, season after season.

Exterior cladding

Does your exterior cladding look worn out? Cracked vinyl boards, rotting wood, peeling paint everywhere?

Or worse—have you noticed water seeping into your walls, dampness in your walls, or rising heating bills because your house is poorly insulated?

Your exterior siding isn't just about how your home looks—it's your first line of defense against our crazy climate. Rain, snow, freezing and thawing, intense summer sun—all of these conditions attack your coating day after day.

Damaged or poorly installed siding allows water to seep in. The result: rotten wood, mold, soggy insulation, and repairs that cost a fortune.

At Solutions Rénovation Québec, We install durable exterior siding that protects your home for good. No shortcuts, no cheap work—just solid work that will last for 30-40 years.

The Problems We See All the Time

Cracked or warped vinyl

Cheap vinyl cracks with freezing and thawing, warps in the sun, and ends up looking shabby after a few years. Worse, it lets water seep in behind it.

Rotten wood

Poorly maintained wood rots, especially near the ground, around windows, and in places where water accumulates. Once it starts to rot, it spreads quickly.

Water infiltration

When your siding is poorly installed or damaged, water gets into your walls. This causes mold, rotten wood, and ruins your insulation.

Peeling paint

On wood or cedar shingles, paint eventually peels off. You have to repaint every 5-7 years, and it's not cheap.

Poor insulation

Many older homes have siding nailed directly onto the wood, without exterior insulation. The result: a cold house and high bills.

Poorly installed cladding

No air barrier, no protective membrane, inadequate nailing, no expansion space. All of this causes problems in the medium term.

Old-fashioned appearance

Old flooring from the 80s and 90s makes your entire house look dated. It even affects its resale value.

The Types of Siding We Install

Quality Vinyl

Modern vinyl isn't like it was 20 years ago. Good products are thick, frost-resistant, and retain their color forever.

  • Why it's good: Economical, zero maintenance (no repainting ever), resistant to freeze-thaw cycles, wide variety of colors and styles, lasts 30-40 years easily.
  • What we use: High-quality vinyl with a minimum thickness of 0.044 inches. We avoid cheap vinyl from big box stores that breaks after 5 years.
  • Available styles: Traditional horizontal, vertical (board and batten), cedar shingle style, modern wide planks.
  • Warranty: Good manufacturers guarantee their vinyl for 50 years against fading and cracking.

Wood (Cedar, Pine, Spruce)

Natural wood is beautiful, warm, and adds character to your home. However, it requires maintenance.

  • Why it's good: Unmatched natural appearance, can last 50 years or more if well maintained, easy to repair.
  • Types we install: Red cedar shingle (classic and durable), pine board (economical), cedar board (attractive and durable).
  • Interview: Must be stained or painted every 5-7 years. If you don't like that, choose another material.

Stone and Brick

Stone or brick is the most durable cladding material available. It lasts for generations.

  • Why it's good: Virtually indestructible, zero maintenance, high-end look, excellent insulation, fire resistant.
  • Types we install: Natural stone (granite, limestone), manufactured stone (imitates natural stone at a lower cost), clay brick.
  • Cost: It's the most expensive option, but it's a lifetime investment. You'll never have to replace it.

Acrylic Coating

Acrylic coating (modern stucco) is a coating that creates a monolithic, waterproof, and durable surface.

  • Why it's good: Waterproof, crack-resistant (unlike old plaster), wide variety of textures and colors, lasts 30-40 years.
  • How it works: An insulating base coat is applied to your walls, followed by fiberglass mesh and several layers of acrylic plaster. The end result is smooth, durable, and seamless.

Fiber Cement Board

Fiber cement (such as HardiePlank) is an ultra-durable composite material that mimics wood.

  • Why it's good: Resistant to fire, insects, rot, and frost. More durable than wood, less expensive than brick. Retains its appearance for decades.
  • Interview: It needs to be repainted every 10-15 years (vs. 5-7 years for wood), but that's all.

Metal Cladding

Metal (steel or aluminum) is modern, durable, and increasingly popular.

  • Why it's good: Virtually indestructible, fire-resistant, zero maintenance, contemporary look, lasts 50 years or more.
  • Styles: Horizontal, vertical, or wavy profile. Matte or glossy finish.

Our Installation Process

Full evaluation

We inspect your current siding, check the condition of the underlying structure, and look for signs of water infiltration or rot.

Choosing materials with you

We discuss your budget, your aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you're willing to do. We give you honest advice on what will really work.

Removal of old coating

Remove the old siding, inspect the intermediate layer (tar paper, Tyvek), and repair any rotten or damaged wood.

Air barrier and insulation installation

A breathable air barrier (Tyvek or equivalent) is installed over the entire surface. If your insulation is inadequate, rigid insulation panels can be added to improve your home's energy efficiency.

Coating installation

We install your new siding according to the manufacturer's standards—proper spacing, nailing in the prescribed locations, and watertight joints around windows and doors.

Finishes

We install corners, moldings, soffits, and fascias. Everything must be waterproof and finished neatly.

Watertight caulking

We seal all joints with high-quality caulking—around windows, doors, corners. This is crucial to prevent water from entering.

Complete cleaning

We'll pick up all the debris and clean up your property.

Improving Energy Efficiency

When you replace your siding, it's the perfect time to improve your home's insulation.

Rigid insulation panel

You can install 1-2 inches of rigid insulation board (polystyrene or polyurethane) under your new siding. This adds R-5 to R-10 to your walls.

Results

Warmer house in winter, cooler in summer, heating bills reduced by 15-25%. The investment pays for itself in energy savings.

Areas We Cover

Complete exterior walls

We paint all the walls of your house—front, sides, back.

Enlargements

If you've just built an addition, we can clad it to match the rest of your home.

Garages and sheds

We also clad your secondary buildings.

Partial coating

If only one section of your home needs to be redone, we can do that. We make sure that the new material blends in well with the old.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the material chosen and the surface area, but here are some realistic estimates (per square foot installed):

  • High-quality vinyl: 8-12$ per square foot
  • Wood (cedar or pine): 12-18$ per square foot
  • Acrylic coating: 10-15$ per square foot
  • Fiber cement: 10-16$ per square foot
  • Stone or brick: 20-35$ per square foot
  • Metal cladding: 12-20$ per square foot

For a typical house with 1,500 square feet of surface area to be covered, expect to pay between $12,000 and $25,000, depending on the material.

These prices include: removal of old siding, repair of rotten wood if necessary, air barrier, installation of new siding, finishing touches, caulking.

If you want to add exterior insulation, add approximately 3-5$ per square foot.

How Long Does It Take?

For a standard single-family home, allow 1-2 weeks depending on the complexity and the material chosen.

  • Vinyl: 3-5 days
  • Wood or fiber cement: 5-7 days
  • Stone or brick: 2-3 weeks
  • Acrylic coating: 1-2 weeks

We give you a precise schedule right from the start.

Maintaining Your New Siding

  • Vinyl: Wash with a garden hose once a year. That's all.
  • Wood: Inspect annually, stain or paint every 5-7 years.
  • Stone/brick: Virtually no maintenance. Check mortar joints every 10-15 years.
  • Acrylic coating: Wash as needed. No other maintenance required.
  • Fiber cement: Repaint every 10-15 years. Otherwise, nothing.
  • Metal: Zero maintenance.

Signs That It's Time to Replace Your Siding

Cracked or warped siding

If several sections are damaged, it is better to redo everything than to repair it piece by piece.

Water infiltration

Water stains inside, mold on interior walls, peeling paint inside near the windows.

Rotten wood

If you can easily stick a screwdriver into your siding, it's rotten. You need to act fast.

High heating bills

If your home is poorly insulated, replacing the siding and adding insulation can reduce your costs by 20-30%.

Old-fashioned appearance

If your siding is making your house look old, changing it will completely transform its appearance and increase its value.

Why Choose SRQ for Your Siding?

Preparing the base properly

Many contractors simply nail the new siding over the old. Not us. We remove the old siding, repair any damage, install an air barrier, and do everything by the book.

Experience with the Quebec climate

We know the challenges—intense freeze-thaw cycles, freezing rain, extreme heat in the summer. We install coatings that can withstand it all.

Perfect sealing

Special attention is paid to caulking, joints, and critical areas (windows, doors). A watertight house is a sustainable house.

5-year warranty on our installation

If there is a problem with our installation (poorly nailed siding, water infiltration due to our work), we will return to correct it free of charge. This is in addition to the manufacturer's warranties on the material.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best coating for Quebec's climate?

All the materials we install are suited to our climate, but if you want zero maintenance and maximum durability, high-quality vinyl or fiber cement are excellent choices. For a high-end, maintenance-free look, stone or brick are unbeatable.

Should the old covering be removed, or can the new one be installed on top?

We always recommend removing the old one. This allows us to inspect the structure underneath, repair rotten wood, install a new air barrier, and start with a clean slate. Installing over the top just hides the problems.

How long does vinyl siding last?

High-quality vinyl (0.044 inches and above) easily lasts 30-40 years. Cheap vinyl lasts 15-20 years. That's why we only use good material.

Does exterior siding add value to my home?

Absolutely. It's one of the investments with the best return. New siding can increase the value of your home by 10-15%, and it improves curb appeal for resale. You can expect to recoup 70-80% of your investment.

Can the coating be changed in winter?

It is possible but not ideal. Some materials (such as vinyl) become brittle in very cold weather. Caulking does not work well below freezing. We recommend doing this from spring to fall for best results.

How do I choose the color of my flooring?

Think long term—neutral colors (white, gray, beige, brown) are timeless. Bright colors can wear you out after a few years. Also, take a look at the houses in your neighborhood to make sure your choice blends in. We'll show you samples and can even do visual simulations.

Can I combine different materials?

Yes, it's very popular. For example, stone on the main facade and vinyl on the sides. Or wood on top and brick on the bottom. It creates visual contrast while controlling costs. We help you create a harmonious look.
