Smooth, Solid Walls with the Right Finish

Painting & drywall

Do you have walls full of holes? Cracks that reappear every year? Or old paint that is peeling and making your home look neglected?

It's not just ugly—it's often a sign that your walls weren't built correctly in the first place.

Plaster and paint may seem simple. But the difference between a job well done and a sloppy job is obvious. Visible joints, bubbles in the paint, poorly finished corners—all of these are the result of sloppy installation or preparation.

At Solutions Rénovation Québec, we treat every wall as if it were our own. We take the time to do things right, because we know that's what makes the difference between an ordinary job and a result you'll be proud of.

The Problems We See All the Time

Joints de gypse mal tirés

This is the number one mistake. Seams that show up after painting, visible lines, bumps. This is the result of rushing the job or a lack of experience.

Pas assez de couches de composé à joint

It takes at least three coats to achieve a smooth, invisible joint. Many contractors only apply two coats to save time. The result is always disappointing.

Sablage bâclé

If sanding is done poorly, all the flaws will show through the paint. Proper sanding takes time and creates dust, but it is essential.

Peinture appliquée sur une surface mal préparée

If you paint over holes, cracks, or old peeling paint, your results will be mediocre. Preparation is 70% of the work.

Mauvaise peinture ou mauvais outils

Cheap paint or poor-quality rollers leave marks, visible roller marks, and an uneven finish.

Our Gypsum Services

New Drywall Installation

Whether it's for a new room, a finished basement, or an addition, we install drywall the right way.

  • What we do: We install the drywall panels securely (screwed every 12 inches onto the studs), tap the joints with high-quality compound, install metal or plastic corner beads for durability, and apply three coats of joint compound.
  • Result: Perfectly smooth walls, ready to paint.

Drywall Repair

Holes in frames, cracks, dented corners, water damage to a ceiling—we repair it all.

  • Minor repairs: Screw holes, small cracks, chipped corners. We fill, sand, and blend with the existing wall. When it's finished, you can't see a thing.
  • Major repairs: Large holes (such as when someone has knocked down a wall), significant water damage, sections of ceiling that need replacing. We cut out the damaged section, install a new piece, and smooth out the joints so that it blends in perfectly.
  • Recurring cracks: If you have cracks that keep reappearing in the same place, it's often because the house is moving or the joint was poorly done. We use fiberglass joint tape and special techniques to make sure it stays in place for good.

Ceiling Finishing

Textured ceiling that needs smoothing, ceiling damaged by moisture, Whether you need a new ceiling installed or an existing one repaired, we've got you covered.

  • Textured ceilings (popcorn): You can remove them if you want a modern, sleek look. It's messy, but the result is worth it.
  • Smooth ceilings: We smooth the joints perfectly for a smooth, uniform finish. It's more difficult than a wall (gravity works against us), but it's our specialty.

Acoustic Insulation

If you want to reduce noise between rooms, Soundproof drywall can be installed or acoustic insulation can be added to the walls.

Perfect for separating a home office from the rest of the house, or for a family room in the basement where children play.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many coats of paint should be applied?

Apply at least two coats for a long-lasting, even result. If you are changing the color drastically (from dark to light), we recommend using a tinted primer plus two top coats.

Can you paint over wallpaper?

It is possible, but we strongly recommend removing the wallpaper first. Otherwise, the wallpaper seams will eventually show through the paint. We can remove it for you—it takes time, but the result is ten times better.

My walls have a lot of holes and cracks. Do I need to replace everything?

Rarely. In most cases, we can repair and restore the damage. We assess the extent of the damage during our free visit. If the walls are really too damaged, we'll tell you honestly.

How long before I can put the furniture back?

The paint is dry to the touch after 2-4 hours, but it is recommended to wait 24 hours before placing furniture back against the walls. This allows the paint to harden completely.

Do you paint in winter?

Yes, no problem. Interior painting can be done year-round. Just make sure the room is at the right temperature (59-77°F) during application and drying.

Can melamine cabinets be repainted?

Yes, but you need a special primer for the paint to adhere properly. We use products designed specifically for melamine and smooth surfaces. The result is long-lasting if done correctly.

How can you prevent cracks from reappearing?

It depends on the cause. If it's due to normal movement of the house, we use fiberglass tape and a flexible compound. If it's a structural problem, the cause must be addressed before repairing the crack. We'll guide you based on your situation.
